image conversion

Hi,

I'm new to AppleScript and I don't really know what I'm doing so I hope this question isn't too dumb.

I have a bunch of pict files which I want to convert to png or gif. I've worked out that the Preview application can open the files and export them to the format I want. I don't want to manually open and export so many files but I don't know how to script the process.

I've managed to write a little script which will open all the pict files I have selected in the Finder but I don't know how to convert and save them.

Maybe Preview isn't the application to use. Graphic Converter is scriptable isn't it ? Hmmmm
