You should upgrade to 10.2, if you can. It has many, many improvements in
stability and power in general. Also, more AppleScriptability (folder
actions! and some newly scriptable system stuff). Also, less

apps and temporarily lost some of their AppleScriptability).

1.8.3 on Mac OS 9 cures many ills left over from the very buggy 1.7, but it
also cures some bugs left over from 1.6 and even earlier. It has a few
problems of its own, of course. My very unscientific impression is that
1.8.3 is an improvement over 1.6 in general.
1.8.3 on Mac OS X 10.1.x seems better to me, too. On 10.2, you get 1.9,
which seems better still to me.
