Sometimes. A lot of times, I think it's just because the questions are
so varied and relate to so many different apps that there just isn't
enough experience and expertise to answer them all. Or the people who
have it don't happen to notice the post. The volume around here has
gotten high enough that I often read less than half of what comes in for
long stretches. If you're in the wrong half, and I'm the only one who
can answer you're question, you're out of luck.
The biggest problem I see newbies having (and even sometimes oldbies
like myself) is lack of specification.
If you say "I need to write a script to automate document layout in
QuarkXpress and I can't get it to work. Help," you are very unlikely to
get a particularly helpful answer.
OTOH, if you post a small snippet of code that doesn't do what you
expect and describe exactly what you want to happen and what does
happen, anyone with quark experience and a copy handy will probably be
willing to try out your snippet, play with it and give you suggestions.
In general, questions about scripting the finder and other system
services, or common internet or dtp apps will generally get responses
(if not always helpful ones). For less well known apps, or completely
other areas, there may be no one reading who even has the application in
question, let alone experience scripting it!
