Stuck in OSX loop

Hello,
I was wondering whether anyone else is scripting Quark 5 from Jaguar using
folder actions.
I am running into a strange anomaly. My script will stick, on run, and
never return a normal timeout of 2 minutes but continue to hang indefinitely
or until I force quit Quark, DeBugger or Script Editor.
I know my script runs fine (at least at the beginning where I've tested
previously) but now it's acting strange. Then after trying and quit over
and over, all of a sudden it will run fine for a couple of times, erroring
out where I have written new syntax that isn't correct. But when I fix that
syntax and try it again, it runs into the freeze thing.
It's as though it won't talk to Quark. All other OSX requests function
fine from finder to native apps but when "tell app QuarkXpress" starts it
freezes and locks up the scripting program.

Note:
I have tried other classic apps and they appear to work fine.
I have reloaded Quark 5.0 and tried 5.0.1, Script Debugger 3.0.4, ran the
disk utility from 10.2 to fix any permission problems and even reloaded 10.2
but to no avail.
I've tried with System Events enabled & disabled (no difference).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Kevin Dolan
