It is not so much the learning - I mean, you could memorise the C syntax in
a day if you sat down and just did it, but the memorability of the code, and
the ease of looking up, and the sheer readability.

I respectfully disagree. Using Perl involves using it on a daily or at least
weekly basis. AS can be dipped into spasmodically. LabVIEW is a similarly
"like riding a bike" experience. You never forget.

IMHO, there are very good reasons that these have never taken off (despite
decades of development). They are good in particular areas, or they good if
you are a comp sci theoretician, or if you are a purist (respectively), but
they convey no net benefit in practice.
