Does that mean that scriptability in the Finder is to be deprecated/no
longer supported? Or just that they've provided new file system functions
in the language itself that'll reduce reliance on the Finder for such
tasks?
I think I'd mourn the passing of Finder scripting, which is really quite
nice to do and all very logical in itself [i.e. once the novice gets past
any initial confusion caused by the naive and all-too-common notion that
AS=Finder=file system]. Plus it has a great object model; a canonical
example of what AS and OSA is all about, imo (and an ideal model for
developers wanting scriptability in their own apps to follow).
At the same time, native filesystem control is really one of those things
you'd expect in any well-formed language these days, so I certainly
wouldn't grudge it. Plus improved performance surely won't hurt either...
