I can only add my 'oh yes they do' to the others that have appeared here,
Paul. Same system and AS components as you, apparently.

When something seems to have gone seriously awry, my first resort is to
create a new user, log into that account, and see if the problem persists.
If it does, then maybe it's time for a re-install, or a back-up from that
clone of the system disk you made last week. :)
