Well, sorry for posting this sort of questions on this list.
But a desperate search for answers on every conceivable net resources
led me to to a luminous conclusion: don't we have an invaluable resource
concerning Eudora (J.D., not to name him)?
OK, let's go beyond the eye winking; I'm really concerned, as a network
administrator (great words to designate someone being in charge of
anything that can go wrong: he's the culprit!), about two problems we
are facing with the usage of Eudora since it's version 5.
First, more and more messages (mostly spam, but also MS-servers
originated ones) are badly formed.
For instance, even if our pop server delivers a mime multipart message
without and ending boundary, Eudora seems to refuse to recognize it as a
message and leaves it on the server.
I can still retrieve such a message with Netscape, and thus have it
removed from the mailbox.
Could it be that we have a so strange mail delivery system config, or
does this result from a known behavior of Eudora?
Second, charsets for MIME messages seem to be strangely handled.
That is, for example, a message with an iso-8859-1 charset seems to be
incorrectly interpreted because:
internally, Eudora has converted it to mac-roman,
but has stored a tag kind of '<x-eudora-charset="">'
and thus reconverts the message during display
(just trying to reproduce from memory, but the spirit is there)
Could it be that we are missing a setting somewhere?
TIA (especially to J.D ;-) ),
Axel
