Ditto would have trashed your resource forks unless you used it with
the -rscsFork flag. So, the items in your trash may yet have the
resources attached.
Ditto's function is clearly documented in its man page. When you're in
a data recovery situation, just like when you're logged in as root, you
must double check before you issue commands. Review the man page even
for commands you've used before or whose function seems obvious.

That's why I used ditto. The problem is that the program that trashed
the files did not! I think that is clear from my original message.
