Can anyone share their experience scripting InDesign?
Yes, but probably not without gushing.
One of the things that always annoys me is that when someone wants a
complex project scripted, you first have to see *if* it can be done.
Are all the bits you need to get to scriptable? Any insurmountable
bugs? Sometimes it seems you have to write the script before you can
say the script can be written. With InDesign, most times I just say,
"Sure."
Yes, there are still some areas that could do with some work. But
there's lots of stuff that's really, really nice: open your documents
without showing them if you want more speed, naming/labelling palette
built in, keyboard shortcuts for scripts. Did I mention it has built-in
UI-building for scripts?
It's a more complex app, so scripting it is more complex, and it takes
a little while to break from Quark scripting habits. But after a little
while it just feels so *nice*.
And it doesn't hurt that the app itself leaves QXP in the dust, IMO...
