Personally, I am offended by this passage.

It was never said. Sam was mayhaps a bit cheesy around the edges, but he was never the person who stood there declaring bits and pieces that could have come from Tom Hanks standing by the Seine with a rifle in one hand and a wounded comrade in the other.

In fact the only place in book three where "some good" is mentioned is when Gimli says there is some good stone-work in Minas Tirith. In book two Treebeard talks about good and bad ents, of which some good ones have passed long time ago. The second some good in Two Towers is when Faramir says that Boromir died well, achieving some good thing.
