A quick question for those who are familiar with OS X.
I have not upgraded my OS from 8.6 as I run some legacy apps that

I was told by someone that I could run both OS X and OS 8.6 on my G3
Bronze Powerbook. I have been eyeing various gadgets (MP3 players &
stuff) that are supported in OS X but not classic.
Is this true and could you direct me as how to do this.
Thanks so much

Two words. Partition. (I'm from the South)
First, backup your current install to a network location or an
external. If that's a FW Bronze you can backup your internal to a FW
external,
Boot off the install CD. Format and partition your internal into two
volumes with the Disk Utility on the Panther install disk. The 8.6
partition shouldn't need to be larger than a gig. Copy your Previous
System Folder back onto that. You can put all the apps and files on the
larger main partition or whatever.
Install Panther onto the other volume. Might be a good time to
upgrade the HD on the Bronze if you haven't already. The OEM drives are
tiny by current standards. X needs a good sized space and swap space
too.
Don't fail to choose 'install os 9 drivers' on both the partitions
when formating or you'll be doing this all twice.
If you don't have the RAM maxed out you should plan on doing so. It's
crucial on older hardware like this.
I have a 300 and a 400 G3 Bronze running 10.2.6 and they both run it
very well. I suggest Panther because of the improvements, stability and
nice speed boost it brought on the Ti 667.
