Of course you're right, that's definitely preferable to GUI scripting.
Just be warned that the Finder Zip creates very weird archives, and unless
they are unzipped by the Panther Finder on the other end, you *will* have
problems.
If you're going to use shell, you should probably consider gzip, it's just
as good, and doesn't create wonky archives.
