That is right; "is" has many different meanings, depending upon
context; the _ New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary_ devotes a column
and a half to "be." Of course, the rigid minded and inflexible are
unable to realize this significant fact. That is the reason that the
conservatives and the rabid right tried to ridicule Clinton for saying
"That depends on what 'is' means."
