I'm sorry, I wish you the best in your efforts but I would never assist
anyone in sending HTML via e-mail. HTML belongs on the web, e-mail is
plain text. If you want someone to view a HTML page you have made you
should either send them a PDF of it, an archived version of it, or a
URL to visit it.

Right, because that way, you make people have to deal with badly made
bloated PDFs, or taking three extra steps on the receiving end, and 35 on
the creating end just to be able to use formatting besides caps, asterixes,
and the space bar.

I really don't see the need for any formatting beyond plain old text. The emphasis should be on the words not on the style. If you need to send something more exotic then that's what MIME is for. Attach it to the e-mail as a separate document so that you can view it in your viewer of choice rather than have the e-mail program be the catch-all. Should e-mail programs be used to view images, Flash, video, run javascript, play sounds, Excel spreadsheets, Filemaker databases, etc? Not in my book. E-mail is plain old text, HTML is best left to a web browser or other external HTML viewer.

Many people immediately delete any message they receive in HTML format,
and I am one of them. If you want your messages to get to all of the
people you send them to then your best bet is plain text.

Hope you never have a loved one who's not one of the "Plain Text Kool kid"

If someone that I care about sends me a HTML e-mail I kindly but gently tell them that their message didn't get sent properly. I then tell them how to turn off the evil HTML mail options in their mail program so that I can receive their mail. If they don't change then oh well...

Anyways, this debate could go on forever. Some people seeing nothing wrong in sending any data they please over e-mail and others think it should be kept as simple and universal as possible. Personally I say the same thing to the HTML people as I do to the Windows people: you use what you like and I use what I like. :-)
