I really don't see the need for any formatting beyond plain old text.

The emphasis should be on the words not on the style.
Real tabs.
Numbered lists that have decent formatting.
Bold instead of *iwishiwasbold*
Keeping the AppleScript syntax highlighting and continuation characters
intact on an AppleScript list.
These are all things that plain text cannot do.
Proper formatting enhances readability. If this were not true, all we'd need
are mimeograph machines, not all this prepress crap.

For real tabs, you think it's better to attach a bloated third party file?

Not in my book. E-mail is plain old text, HTML is best left to a web

browser or other external HTML viewer.
If you're going to reply to what I said, READ WHAT I SAID.
"<sigh> HTML isn't the problem. Mail clients that let you use ALL of HTML
are the problem."
A limited subset of HTML would neither contribute to problems, nor create
security holes. And to be perfectly pedantic, Flash and video aren't HTML.
HTML is plain text. It's how it's interpreted that makes the difference.
Maybe, if HTML/RTF email had been handled in a responsible manner way back
when, instead of going "ICAN'T HEARYOULAlALALALALALA" we'd not have the
problems we have. But once again, the computer elite suck at dealing with
change, so here we are.

And you didn't need to use syntax highlighting. And of course, everyone
would love to get attachments on this mailing list so we never have to look
at EEEEVILLLLL formatted email.
