I haven't been able to find an answer anywhere else so I'll take a
chance on the massive (and massed) brain power and experience of this
bunch.
I recently set up a wireless network with a NetGear WGR614 v2 router
and an iBook with an Airport card. Everything works great except that
I can't implement one of the security layers available in the router.
That's the one that limits access to the network to machines that have
their MAC addresses listed in a table on the router. The router setup
software requires the MAC address and the device name of the card. The
Airport card apparently has no device name.
I called Apple support and they brushed me off because I was using the
NetGear router. I called Netgear support and they brushed me off
because I was using the Airport card.
Can anyone give me some advice about how to get these two pieces of
hardware to work together? I'd guess that I need either a way to get a
nameless car into the router's wireless card access list or a way to
attach a device name to the airport card.
TIA!
