The empty string (4th in the list) should be an unattached circumflex (ASCII character 246)

So, in fact, both AppleScript _and_ the AS List are confused by foreign accents.

It is an unattached circumflex on my system. (OS X 10.3.2, AS 1.9.2, SE 2.0)
