The big-cat-theme will disappear some day (OS 11?) and Macs will continue.
At that point bug cats will seem passi and OS X-specific, while dogs will
seem at worst, an arbitrary O'Reilly choice (and, at best, endearing - for
those who like dogs). If it makes anyone feel better, O'Reilly's "Learning
Python" has a picture of a wood rat, not a snake (which, in fact, has
nothing to do with the provenance of the name "Python" for the computer
language).
