Each O'Reilly book has a colophon describing the species on the cover.
In some cases there is a described link between the cover and the
subject covered by the book, and in others the description and
characteristics detailed give a direction for relating the cover to the
title. Sort of a lexical easter egg.

Not *all* of them feature dogs, but I'm not sure where the dividing
line is. The "Missing Manual" books, for instance, have their own
cover designs. They had their reasons for choosing dogs, though I
forget what they are now. (Obviously part of the point was to have a
species theme that spanned the books, and using dogs gives you a lot
of flexibility.) There's actually a person at O'Reilly responsible
for selecting the cover animals; it's not just random.

The only thing I didn't like about the book was the cover. A dog? Is
AppleScript really a dog?
I'm engrossed in the contents, though.
