mail.app reset-- ideas?

This isn't applescript related, but I'm tearing my hair out. Perhaps someone has been through this already and could save me the reinvention of the wheel......

I just installed Panther, hoping to ease the 2 users on one addressbook problems my partner and i had been having by creating 2 users.

I copied my address book files (~user/library/application support/AddressBook/(entire folder) from my Powerbook G4 to my G4 desktop and now can't open the address book-- get a "can't open AddressBook, the data base is corrupted" message.

I've deleted and re-done this a couple of times to no avail.

Isync won't work-- the info is on Isync, but it comes up with a "failed synch, manually reset AB and re-synch" message
I don't find anything about manual resynch on any support pages.

any suggestions (where else should I look, how can i manually reset the AB, how to successfully copy needed files from PB to G4, etc) would be appreciated.

TIA

Monica
