Close, but no cigar.
Mark Aldritt has explained that the operative workaround is to logout on the
networked machine where SD was running, at least until the problem gets
fixed.
Normally I NEVER logout, and if I was running SD on my laptop It may have
been days ago. Who can remember that far back?
The severe crashing seems to occur when I am running Satimage's "backup"
command to the afflicted machine, so this may be a compound problem.

This mantra to ease my burden:
"Maybe they'll fix it in the next version"
