OS 9.2 offers ( I believe ) USB Printer Sharing.

OS 9 users can share their USB printer with nearby Macs.

Sharing a USB printer in OS 9 is simple and useful, especially if you own multiple Macs and they're connected over an Ethernet.

Install your printer drivers on both machines.
Plug the USB printer into one of the machines.
Open USB Printer sharing in the Control Panel (in the Apple menu).
Click Start, and the printer is shared.
Go to the other Mac and open USB Printer sharing.
Under the Network Printers tab you'll find your shared printer.
Select it and select the correct printer driver in the chooser.

It's that easy.

But on http://www.macobserver.com/columns/askdave/2001/20011116.shtml Dave says...
That said, there are a few software-based options for sharing your USB printer. Mac OS 9 includes "USB Print Sharing", and depending on what kind of printer you have, this can work quite well. Unfortunately some printer vendors (are you listening Hewlett Packard??) have opted to use a non-standard set of USB protocols when designing their printers and, as such, some of them won't work with USB Print Sharing. Epson printers, on the other hand, can usually be shared using either USB Print Sharing or the third-party EpsonShare utility.

I'd at least give it a try.

Printing has been a problem. My HP Deskjet is connected to my wife's
iMac, which is still running OS 9.2. I don't know how to print directly
to the printer from my OS X Powermac. I note that the OS X print box has
a save as pdf choice which I take advantage of to save pages for future use.

Is it possible to save as pdf and then send the pdf to a folder on the
9.2 box that uses a folder action and applescript to print the file to
the deskjet?

If anyone is doing anything similar and could provide some pointers and/
or syntax examples I'd appreciate it.
