In theory, you could control Default Folder http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/ with GUI Scripting, e.g. assign command keys to folders that a script needs to access.

I was able to send a keystroke to Default Folder from UI Browser. My first attempt at a script didn't work; not sure if I did something wrong or if it's a problem with GUI Scripting. (There's a free trial version of Default Folder, so it's easy enough for anyone to test before spending money.)

For those not on OS X, the earlier version of Default Folder includes an OSAX (Scripting Addition) to set the dialog folder.

Default Folder X supports two scripting commands: IsDialogOpen and SwitchToFolder. If you just want to go to a folder in a file dialog, make sure that the file dialog is frontmost so that Default Folder X's controls are showing, then send Default Folder X a "SwitchToFolder" and give it an alias to the folder you want to display.
