Just a thought. I've had some funny experiences when using applescript on
machines that have Default Folder installed.
I've also heard [read] of others. Wasn't there a discussion on some of those
recently on this list?

In theory, you could control Default Folder
http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/ with GUI Scripting, e.g. assign
command keys to folders that a script needs to access.
