Hi,
this is my second attempt to look for help from this list on this issue, if
anyone has some experience please help.
The problem
Control via script the printing as PDF or as Postscript of any application
under OSX.
The attempts
- Apparently the only thing that you can do with Print Center is to change
the Default Printer, all printer properties are r/o, you cannot even change
the print queue status to "stopped". (Attempt to access documents on a
stopped print queue)
- as PDF and as Postscript (for postscript printers) are standard part of
the print dialog, but I cannot find a way to define a printer that operates
just as a translator, in fact when saving a specific printing format (while
printing manually) this get applied to all your printers not just the one in
use. So this route is precluded. (Attempt to define a printer as translator)
- I've just tried using the new beta System events, it appeared very
promising with all possibilities to control UI elements, but unfortunately I
wasn't able to access UI elements in printing windows (or sheets) because, I
guess, they are not really part of the application, but are system wide
services for all applications. (Attempt to access UI)
What else can I do to solve this problem?
There is anything around (for OS X) like the "PDF Printer" that is available
for OS 9?
At this point my only remaining possibility is to go and look at development
tools trying to discover how difficult it is to make a printer driver that
operates as a predefined translator. Is this the only solution?
Thanks in advance for any help, suggestion, snippet ... anything
nino
