I get some peculiar behavior when I try to use DragThing to launch AS.
I've built DragThing docks for around a dozen apps, and have found that they
need to be configured in a fairly specific way to ensure consistent
behaviour (ie, consistent with themselves and with other application
toolbars and palettes).
The dock should be set to float all the time; the 'Dock items are buttons'
box on the misc pane of the Dock Options window should be checked; and the
Dock's title bar should be _hidden_. (From an aesthetic point of view, I
also prefer to check the 'Hide shadow' option.)
Losing the title bar is no big deal (assuming the dock doesn't have to be
moved around once it's been set up). If I need to minimise a dock, I put a
script on one of its buttons that does just that, and scripts on buttons can
similarly be used to cycle through the layers of a multi-layer dock, so you
can get those tabs hidden away, too.
The benefit of setting up app-specific docks in this way is that DragThing
NEVER COMES TO THE FRONT! That's right. You don't need to tell the host
application to activate, because it never lost the focus in the first place.
Clicking on a dock button is no different to clicking on a toolbar button in
Photoshop or AppleWorks. This is the way it should be.
