2) why a metal look in an aqua interface? iTunes is odd too. Another
symptom of the the above condition?
All iApps and many other Apple apps use the metal look. iTunes,
iPhoto,
iMovie,
iDVD, iSync, iChat, iCal, QuickTime Player, Safari, Address Book.
Steve
Steve likes it. That other Steve, I mean. It does group the iApps
together (assuming we allow Safari and Address Book admittance to the
club
despite their names...let's see...no, iAddress iBook doesn't "work").
As all AS Studio scripters (should) know [1], Apple was very wrong in
using the textured interface. According to Apple's very own Aqua Human
Interface Guidelines, the textured interface is reserved for specific
types of applications (I'm too lazy to look up the exact terminology),
mainly things that interact with digital lifestyle extras (eg, iPhoto
works with digital cameras, iTunes with MP3 players and CD burners,
iMovie with DV Camcorders, iDVD with the DVD burner, iSync, well, with
lots of stuff).
Even if you COULD make a case for Safari being classified under this,
the same HIG document states that only the main window (aka, the
browser window) should receive the textured appearance. Any secondary
windows (such as the download window) are supposed to receive normal
window styles. [2]

[1] Step 1 for AppleScript Studio: read the HIG. It's just common sense
[2] Note that all other windows and panels in all the iApps have
pinstriped looks
