Greetings All!

I'm working on a book about building applications with AppleScript. I'm familiar with three methods for creating GUIs with AppleScript: Dialog Director (and Dialog Studio), FaceSpan and AppleScript Studio. I've also read that Smile can be used to create custom dialogs of more complexity than possible with display dialog, so perhaps that's a forth way to do it.

That sounds like you haven't used Smile yet.

Why don't you d/l Smile and take a look at it. It is free. It is very well supported. It is available in OS9 and OSX versions and it is very powerful. The custom dialogs are extremely easy to build. Neglecting this program would be an oversight that would be a poor service to your readers.
