You mean there is a way for an application to know whether some other

application is recordable?
I've forgotten the details, but it seems likely that by pretending to be
(or being) an OSA scripting component and telling the app to start and then
to stop recording, and observing the reaction, one might be able to tell.
Not interesting in practice, since doing that involves having the app
running. But you should be able to tell which of the RUNNING apps is
recordable.
I did write a recordable toy (which tossed in a comment from time to
time...successfully whether it was recording into Frontier or AppleScript),
but never a real recordable application. Yes, a recordable app can include
comments in the stuff to be recorded if it wants to. "Not many" do, which
seems unfortunate.
