The list server cuts long lines. Visibly it cuts them every 989 characters [1]. Suppress the exclamation marks and Smile's cmd-shift-G will convert the hexa all right.

[1] Why 989? I knew a limit of RFC822 which is 1000 characters per line, not 989 ...
