I'm sort of expecting a similar sequence of events with Panther... but if
push comes to shove, I have a friend with a broadband connection who may
be willing to download updates for me and burn them to CD...

There are still a lot of rural areas where essentially no broadband
options exist for Mac users. As of a few months ago (last time I
checked), the only way to use satelllite was to bite a $1500. bullet, set
up a PC server and run an Ethernet (?) feed to the Mac. I balked.

It's still a world of haves and have nots.

Thanks,

Peter B.
