Only some image files showing up...

Using:
set TheDiskFile to choose file of type {"TIFF", "JPEG", "GIFf", "PDF "}
I'm finding that some image files are greyed out, even though the file
type checked with FileBuddy is correct. The common denominator seems to
be that the custom icon flag isn't set.
Has anyone run into this and found a solution?
