Hi Stanley,

There are several ways to go about recovering the missing program. As mentioned in the list, on an OS 9 machine, it lives in the folder named Apple Extras, youll see a folder in there names AppleScript and the editor lives there. Depending on the version of OS 9, the Apple Extras folder may, or may not be inside the Applications Mac OS 9 folder on the hard drive.

Assuming the file is missing from there, and you have the installation disk for the OS available, you can just custom install the editor from the disk. What you do, is you put the disk in the drive, then go through the screens for the installation, until you get to a screen that has a button on the lower left named Customize or something along those lines.

On the next screen, uncheck all of the items, except for the one named Mac OS 9. To the right of this, youll see a pull down box that reads Recommended installation, change that to Customized installation... On this next screen, uncheck everything, but the item labelled Utilities. Click on the little triangle next to utilities so the list expands, and uncheck everything, except for the item named AppleScript. Click OK, then click start. If you do it like this, it will only install AppleScript, and everything else associated with AppleScript (including the script editor).

The other way, is to grab the restore cd, look for the folder named Configurations then double click and mount the disk image in there. Then, navigate through the folders on the image and install a clean copy of the editor application from the image. The potential problem with doing this, is that you could run into the same problem that youre having now with the weird pop up message.

Its actually not as complicated as it might seem.

Cheers,

Rafael
