Okay, you have me up to here. It sounds as if you mean that the script
editor application was in the trash. You've restored it with a copy from
another machine. That's all fine.
JD told you were it should have come from or would be found on a fresh
disk...the Apple Extras:AppleScript folder.

Now you confuse me a bit. "This works" doesn't sound like "this" is the
Script Editor, but a script you've gotten in there.
Also, "Pop Up" vs "Normal" sound like windows. A Pop Up window is a window
that has been dragged to the bottom of the screen area, so that it turns
into a pop-up tabbed window. Those windows may behave differently to
certain AS commands. Certainly they might be expected to behave differently
given a "position" statement, as their positions are partly in off-screen
non-space.

Again, it is confusing because you say "the replacement Script Editor was
pasted in"...do you mean:
a) an application file was "copied" from another disk? or
b) a script was pasted into the Script Editor?

No. No. No. The Script Editor application and/or its folder can be copied,
duplicated, moved, transferred and so on to wherever you'd like.
You do NOT need to reinstall any system components nor backup any files.

Again, what do you mean by the "Popup Script Editor"? Application windows,
in OS9, can not be made to be tabbed pop-up windows...only Finder folder
windows can be made so.

What I really need to know is what is the easiest way to correct the problem?
I think the first step is to accurately describe the problem in some terms
that we can get a handle on. The message is not really about a script, nor
does it appear to be entirely about how to install the Script Editor (an
application used to write and save scripts).
Can you please be more specific and detailed? When do you get the "error"
you describe when you say:

made because the Script Editor was a "Pop Up" rather than a "Normal" one.
Is this an error generated by a script whose purpose is to move a folder
somewhere?
