I am
Research of Endangered Wildlife (Acronym CREW) at the Cincinnati Zoo and
Botanical Gardens. I am attempting to learn ApppleScript so that we can e-
mail requests for reprints of scientific articles that appear in various
publications. We have been making these requests using post cards that are
generated by a database. This is time consuming and expensive since a large
percentage of the mailings go to foreign countries.. We send out several
hundred at a time. No one at the Zoo has ever had any experience with
ApppleScript so I am entirely on my own.
The database was developed by Helix Technologies and we are running it on an
OS 9 platform.
While following the instructions from a manual, I must have inadvertently
deleted the Script Editor. I have no idea how it happened nor do I know why it
is not in the Trash so that I could recover it,. Since I am not on a fulltime
basis, other people use the computer and someone must have cleaned out the
Trash. To replace it I copied the Script Editor from another Mac that has the
same OS9 operating system. This works for the label property and the comment
property but does not work for the position property, at which time error
message appeares stating that the move could not be made because the Script
Editor was a "Pop Up" rather than a "Normal" one. While I had never seen these
terms used, I suspect that that the problem is that the replacement Script
Editor was pasted in rather than being installed from the recovery disk.
The computer has many important files on the hard drive. My questions are:
Are my assumptions correct that the "Normal" Script Editor can only be
reinserted from the recovery disk and to do this that I must copy off all
files and reinstall all applications and files?
If the assumptions are not correct what must be done to change the "Popup"
Script Editor to "Normal?"
What I really need to know is what is the easiest way to correct the problem?
Any help will be greatly appertained. Please respond to my home e-mail
