Hello Listerines,
I have been trying (with the gracious help of Emmanuel) to try to track down
the source of a 'CHK Error' when using Smile 1.8.8Patched. This error
occurs when accessing a dictionary [1].
It causes a total freeze, requiring an interrupt key reboot.
I am able to open the same dictionaries via Script Editor, so that is why I
was thinking that Smile was involved.
I have removed the other OSA language module that I had installed
(JavaScriptOSA) and that doesn't make a difference.
So...I am wondering if you have any suggestions of where to look next? Or
if you have a solid recommendation that AS1.8.3 should _not_ be used with
OS9.1.2. Period. Or at least not in combination with Smile 1.8.8. (Emmanuel
confirms that my OS version and the Smile version are okay, but that perhaps
AS1.6 is the 'highest' I could go...that we don't know.)
I nearly asked before, at archive date: 14-Dec-02; with reply from C.
Nebel, at archive date: 21-Jan-03.
I say 'nearly asked' because I was then moving UP to AS1.8.3 from AS1.6, and
had questions about 'choose from list' in the Standard Additions, and not
specifically about whether I should move up. Chris' reply, quoted here,
made me think that it was perfectly fine to use AS1.8.3 with OS9.1.2 (though
of course he didn't specifically say that ;)

Absent a "no, don't do it", I interpreted that to mean it was okay, and
probably preferred.
Okay, thanks in advance for any shared experience.

Using Open dictionary... from the file menu can cause the crash,
particularly opening the Standard Additions osax, but not only that one, and
not always that one.
Also, and more often, using the 'Dictionary' pop-up menu item when logged to
a tell... session in either a text or script window can cause the crash,
with what appears to be a wider range of scripting additions.
