I have noticed a marked upturn in private e-mails to my AppleScript

the
best way to learn AppleScript.
I've used the incoming newbie e-mail rate for years as an informal
barometer
of the popularity of our scripting language. I'm always delighted to
see an
upturn. I wonder what it's due to, this time around. Any ideas?

I associate it with...
The fact that many people who previously mocked and derided the mac
platform have found it difficult to do so lately. Even Linux users!*
Popular news sources refer to Apple in glowing terms as a success story
on many technological fronts; as opposed to 'Still dying after all
these years'.
People lust after mac hardware and software. iPods, Powerbooks, iMacs,
iLife, OS X etc. this feeds traffic at the Apple site.
AppleScript is promoted on the technologies pages for OS X on the Apple
site. Rather than the previous location; a billboard in the employee
lounge in building 700 N. DeAnza blvd.
PhotoShop is scriptable without additional cost. This is probably the
biggest impetus for professional users to become fluent in AppleScript.

iTunes scripts are available in editable form from many sources.
Providing both examples*** and possibly the best reason for the masses
to dig deeper.
* Not that they don't, but they do have to try harder.
** Especially when your other choices are VB and JavaScript.
*** Too bad the new implementations in the iLife apps cull the numbers
who achieve success in scripting them so severely.
