But I cannot, from a Mac OS X machine, give commands to the Finder of a
remote machine doing Program Linking in 9. I've tried with and without IP
on that machine. I've twiddled every setting I can think of. The X machine
doesn't even list the 9 machine when I look for eppc server. Is this
broken? Thx - m.

I can't resist guessing what that last quoted line says...

'anthropomorphic pants you oregonian dentists need' : )

I don't think that there's any way that you can 'discover' eppc servers. You need to know their location when coding. It's a security thing.
As for getting X to run 9 with program linking; I wish I could help. I've had no success either.
