OS X - it's a great scripting OS.
You can use PERL, Ruby, Python, PHP, Shell Scripting, Javascript and
others along with MySQL, ProstegesSQL and CRON, Regular Expressions,
other CLI commands.....
And you can glue it all together with Applescript. You can fill in
holes or stitch them to "normal" applications - Photoshop, InDesign,
Create...
We use one Mac on OS X and iDo Script Scheduler to take care of
numerous production and server maintenance tasks.
Plus, it seems new - at least to Mac - developers are more aware about
getting their applications to work with other applications and into
workflow. Perhaps they realize people work in more than one program.
Never short of an opinion,

I have noticed a marked upturn in private e-mails to my AppleScript

best way to learn AppleScript.
I've used the incoming newbie e-mail rate for years as an informal
barometer
of the popularity of our scripting language. I'm always delighted to
see an
upturn. I wonder what it's due to, this time around. Any ideas?
