Hi all,
I'm a student doing research in human-computer interaction.
To that end, I'm trying to record user interactions with specific
applications on Mac OS X 10.2.6.
Ideally, I would like to capture the user interaction at either the
applescript level (i.e. recordability or event log),
or at the Apple events level (currently, I have the console window open
to log Apple Events with AEDebugSends and AEDebugRecieves set to 1.)
Mail.app is my first choice as an application to log events in,
followed by iCal, Word, and Powerpoint/Keynote. However, none of those
applications seems to have the recordability I require (nor does the UI
scripting beta tools).
So my question is three-fold:
First, as far as applescript recording, what are the best applications
in OS X for that? Am I missing anything obvious? I'm aware that OS X
has much more limited recording features in comparison with classic,
even so, there must be some way.
Second, barring good applescript recording, are there better tools for
listening to the Apple Events (e.g. some profiler in Project Builder)
that will log more of the inter and especially intra-application events
generated by user interaction?
Thirdly, who do I contact at Apple, failing these other two option to
attempt to negotiate some type of special dispensation to get access to
the unpublished API's for things like Mail, iCal, or Keynote?
Thanks in advance,
MikeO
