Now, with OSX reaching toddler stage (2 years?) I somewhat surprised by the

Does anyone know why? Are they working on these? -- or have they thrown in

The simple fact is that with Unix built in, the "do shell script" osax can serve as a "do anything" osax. The only thing necessary to transfer is the knowledge of the string to feed it to accomplish the most simple or arcane of tasks without waiting for someone to write some new scripting addition, and it will work on everyone's system, which is often the bane of the scripting addition writer. How many times have you heard on this very list, "I'd like a built-in solution, not some extra third party thing."

Of course I'm seconding Jon, "do shell script" had killed most needs for an osax (and that's a good thing).

What may not be clear to everyone is, you can't conveniently use "do shell script" if you expect possibly big pieces of data (> 64 KB). That's a pity.

Emmanuel

It's rather time consuming to write a good OSAX no?
