Keep in mind that a separate "signature" is kept in the plis resource. You'll have to change that as well if you're north of 8.5 . When I was trying to use a script as an email helper app, I also discovered that I also had to add a handler for the specific event. Try an "on open location" handler accepting the URL as an argument and see if the applet will then catch.
