The check syntax button doesn't exist, at least on the main window.

TIA,
Hmmm...I see you don't read manuals or click on interface widgets.
Both of the items you mention _are_ in every script window.
The small 'c' at the bottom of the window toggles open/closed the comment
pane.
The 'check mark' icon checks the syntax.
Guess what the [>] arrow icon does?
Don't be so afraid to click, and ... Smile :)
Perhaps the really nifty new manual would be a place for you to start? I
found it to be a real unleashing force in my own use of Smile. (I don't
think that's an exaggeration...it's really a very good e-manual :-> )
Also, note that these items are present in _script_ windows but not in
_text_ windows.
(You'll have to RTFM[1] to know the difference between the two, but your
script-writing process will likely never be the same (IMO).)
I do not have the URL at hand to the Paul Berkowitz (et.al.) review of
Smile, but that review is itself a very valuable beginning point if you want
"the skinny" on Smile. (IIRC, that review was pre-Super-Duper-Manual, but
I still find it a nice distillation of some of the most useful differences
between Smile and other editors.) Perhaps someone will kindly point you to
that article faster than I can lay hands on it.
Paul? Emmanuel?
