Steve
GUI kings in pre-X systems are FaceSpan (for people who has the $$$, latest
version is 3.5.2) and Dialog Director osax
(
http://osaxen.com/dialog_director.html), free, many times mixed with the
help of Dialog Studio (low-ware and available lite version at
http://macscripter.net/dialog_studio.html). Also interesting, and similar to
DD, 24U Appearance OSAX (
http://osaxen.com/appearance.html), recently
released as freeware.
