FS is great - but old and unlikely to progress beyond its current version. I
just can't see the X version ever seeing the light of day. I think the day
ASS was announced was the day FS4 was put to rest. Mind you, I've been wrong
before, but I wouldn't be counting on FS for the future.

I never used version 1 so can't help with that. If however you only need
reasonably simple dialogs with popups and text entry, I would look really
hard at the 24U Appearance OSAX. It's donationware on OS9 and commercial on
OSX but at least you know it's available for both 'platforms'.
It's very easy to use and will give you most things you're likely to need.
