Nisus have been doing this for a long time. If they can manage
non-contiguous selections in cocoa I can't imagine they'll be stumped
by that rumoured deficiency. While we have only TextEdit and Mail we
really haven't a clue what is possible and I don't belive half of
what I'm told.
