Save as application screws up?

I just fell off the turnip truck as far as AppleScript
is concerned.

In the Apple Script editor, if I save as a compiled
script to XXXscr, it works fine. However, if I save
as an application to XXXapp, and then in the same
session try to save as a compiled script to XXXscr,
I get message claiming that a disk error prevents the
save. I am editing XXXscr.

I can save to both the script and the app if I do it
in the other order, i.e., save to XXXscr as a script
and then XXXapp as an application. But once I've
saved to XXXapp, I have to exit the script editor and
get back in if I want to save to XXXscr as a compiled
script. One more thing, I've tried saving as a compiled
script to a different file name, but I still get the error.

Has anyone seen this before and know what is going on?

Thanks

PS: Is there a FAQ for this newgroup
