My 2 clams on this...

I, too find this list immensely valuable...I DAILY learn something new about
Applescripting and interacting with various apps (and am even learning
enough to start to "give back" to the list here and there).

Since this list IS about Applescript (and since Applescript CAN interact
with the Terminal via Perl and shell commands), I WELCOME the solutions that
include such approaches. In fact in my job, I NEED to learn more about
these.

So, I guess I don't see including solutions with Perl, JavaScript, (or
WHATEVER) in Applescripts, because we're still dealing with Applescript,
right? We're just including some other avenues (like calling Apple Events in
a script).
