StuffIt Deluxe for OS X now includes command line tools (stuff and

They offer StuffIt for Solaris/Linux but I don't know enough about
the *nix variants to tell whether or not it will work with OS X.
The specs don't mention OS X so I suspect not. <shrug>
I doubt that the Solaris versions understand HFS+ but do they
understand MacBinary? For that matter do the OS neXt command line
versions do that kind of thing? AppleDouble? AppleSingle?
According to "stuff" (the command line utility included with StuffIt
Deluxe 7 for OS X), here are the supported archive formats:
apple, bin, bz2, compress, gz, hqx, lha, sit5, sitseg, sitx, tar, uu, zip
The StuffIt Deluxe users guide offers this in reference to text encoding:
StuffIt X (.sitx) archives can also be converted to ASCII text
format. Three text encoding methods are available, Base64, Base 88
and Base 222. The levels of available text encoding determine how
much of the full ACSII character set will be used to encode the
data. The more characters used, the less size overhead will be imposed
as a result of translating the binary data of the archive into text
characters. When sending archives via E-mail, it is best to use
Base64. This uses the fewest characters, but as a result is the most
compatible. Base 222 is a good choice if files are being posted to a
news group.
StuffIt 8 is now available. I haven't upgraded so I don't know what
changes might be included.
